The Impression Hour: Moon Edition.

Posted in DS on March 17, 2009 by Tyler Zehner

Just like the Wii, I’ve found myself neglecting the Nintendo DS a lot lately. The only difference is the DS actually has a lot of great games I want to play, I just don’t have the time to play them (at least that’s what I’ve been saying). But I think I may have found a game that can get me out of this funk I’ve been in, and it’s called Moon.

Now, Moon is one of those games that is supposed to be great, but sold absolutely nothing. Which is the reason I bought it in the first place. I was going to pick it up day one, but decided against it because I was a little low on cash. Anyways, I have the game now and I’ve played through the first hour, and I have to say.. I’m really enjoying it.

It’s a Sci Fi first person shooter, which is definitely nothing new to gaming, but this is the first time I’ve played one on the DS, and it feels great. The controls are very simple, but work wonderfully when your dragging around the reticule using the touch screen. I can’t see myself playing this for long periods of time, because my hands may start to hurt after awhile.. but that’s only because I have fragile girl hands. : ( The game feels more like something I’d play on the bus or toilet, which isn’t a fault towards the game at all, it just seems to fit those situations better because it’s on a handheld (Duh!).

From what I’ve played of the game so far, it still feels like your generic sci fi game. The story starts off with a team of scientists (or something like that) being sent to the moon because a hatch was discovered on it (Oh boy!). And by this point everyone has already realized they aren’t alone in the universe, so you know some crazy shit is going down. I think the game looks really good considering it’s on the DS. And I was surprised to find the game has a very cinematic feel to it, that is the last thing I would have expected, but it works great. I also found there is a very noticeable Metroid feel to the game, which is something that is very welcome, being a fan of that franchise.

I’m having a lot of fun with the game so far, it’s definitely something DS owners should check out. The game looks great, plays great, but It’s not going to pull you away from any of the big console giants like Halo or Killzone, and Its obviously not supposed to (Did I mention you can play it on the toilet?). Definitely check it out, and I’ll try and get a review up as soon as possible, so stay tuned.

A Monday Morning Rant: I Hate Ninja Blade.

Posted in Xbox 360 on March 16, 2009 by Tyler Zehner

Oh man..

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve hated a demo as much as I hate the demo for Ninja Blade. I remember playing it a few months ago and being completely disappointed with everything about it. I remember being disappointed with the horrible quick-time events, the mediocre combat, and even the visuals.. yet I still found myself playing through it a second and even a third time.

I just had to be sure that I absolutely hated this demo before I started talking about it, and trust me.. I do. I will definitely not be picking up the retail version of the game, even if it does end up being a lot better then the demo was. I don’t even want to recommend people play the demo, but that’s just my personal opinion.

I was actually surprised to find some of my friends enjoyed what they played of the demo, which completely blew my mind. So even though I hated the demo and don’t really want to recommend it to anyone, you should probably still check it out (On the Xbox360). Who knows, you may absolutely adore the game, or you may hate it as much as me. Either way you’ll know if this is a game worth keeping an eye on.

That’s it, I’m done ranting. I just wanted to let you folks know what I thought about it. Don’t expect me to talk about this game again, because it will never happen.

And yes, I am grumpy this morning.

The Impression Hour: Madworld Edition

Posted in Wii on March 13, 2009 by Tyler Zehner

It’s been over a year since I’ve picked up any new games for the Wii, which is pretty pathetic. Yeah, there have been some interesting releases for the console, but nothing interesting enough to make me want to spend the money. This week all of that changed with the release of Madworld. I’ve been quietly anticipating this game for months, and now that’s it’s finally come out I can only ask myself one question..

Was the game worth the wait?

After only having played an hour of the game, I can confidently say it was absolutely worth the wait. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m excited to turn on my Wii again, and that’s all because of Madworld.

Now for those of you not familiar with Madworld, it’s basically a very violent, very funny, and very over the top third person action game. It’s all stylized in black and white, except for mass amounts of blood and some on-screen captions. Now you might think it being in black and white would cause you to be disoriented pretty easily, but that’s not the case here. The game does a very good job making everything visible to you. I haven’t encountered any issues visually (but the camera might be come a problem later on), except that it’s so completely bad ass, it could melt your eyes!

The premise of the game is pretty absurd at the moment, but in the best way possible. It reminds me of some classic films like, Escape from New York and The Running Man. Basically something happened to a city where it’s all been isolated from the outside world.. and the main character, Jack, finds himself participating in some sort of game show called Deathwatch. Now I could be completely wrong about that (I was a little confused at the beginning), I may have to play more to find out, but that’s what I’ve gathered from it so far.

Basically, from the hour of the game I’ve played, I’m absolutely loving it. It’s fun, it’s violent, and It’s the type of game we don’t see too often on the Wii. So these are definitely the moments we need to take advantage of as gamers. I’d highly recommend checking it out, even If it’s only for the first hour. I just hope that hour isn’t the best the game has to offer.

I’ll have a full review up as soon as possible.

Less Talk, More Game.

Posted in Uncategorized on March 9, 2009 by Tyler Zehner

Hey! My name is Tyler Zehner, and honestly.. I don’t want to spend a lot of time talking about myself. Not because I don’t like to talk about myself (because I do to an unhealthy degree), I’d rather just talk about video games. So I’ll make this quick.

To this day I still believe I was born with a NES in my hands, because I’ve always been completely attached to the thing. I remember spending hours and hours playing games like Mario, Gauntlet, Ninja Turtles, Contra, Duck Hunt, etc. Then spending many more hours blowing on cartridges trying to get them to f***ing work (I’m pretty certain that’s how I got Asthma). I had the same issues with the Sega Genesis, but even though I hated seeing those multi- colored death screens, I still loved every minute of it.

I’ve played a lot of different consoles over the years, some I worked hard to pay for, others I used friends to get to.. (Oh like you’ve never done it), so I’ve played my share of the classics. Even now I find myself going back and playing games I missed out on as a kid, which has become less of a hassle thanks to places like the Virtual Console. But I’m not just living in the past, I do spend a lot of time playing the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. I definitely keep up to date with what I play, well.. most of the time. I still have a lot of unfinished games in need of some play time, so hopefully I’ll be able to catch up one of these days.. but I’m not holding my breath.

Basically I love games and I love writing about games. So being able to do a blog with people who are just as passionate as I am about them, is awesome. I’m not sure where GamersIncluded is going to take us, but I promise I will put 110% into everything I do. So if your willing to give us a chance, we’ll defintiely do our best to entertain each and everyone of you. And If you have any advice or any suggestions on things we could do to make the experience better for you as a gamer, just let us know.

Thanks,

Tyler.
